Register with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) to take the certification exam in Canada and qualify to work in Ontario.
Based on the National Competency Profile issued by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), this two-year, full-time, fast-paced medical laboratory technology hybrid program trains students to become skilled in scientific, technical and clinical application. Essential principles for performing and evaluating laboratory tests in the healthcare setting. As part of Canada’s fourth largest group of healthcare professionals, medical laboratory technicians play an integral role in our healthcare system.
The first year of the Medical Laboratory Technology Hybrid program consists of classroom instruction and laboratory training. The second year includes online theory instruction and extensive clinical practice at affiliated laboratory sites in and around Ontario. The practical component offers a range of clinical experiences where students integrate and apply their learned theory, skills and professionalism in simulated and/or practical settings. In the final term, students write practice skills-based tests in preparation for writing the national CSMLS certification exam.

Applicants are evaluated on their ability to understand and follow directions. Assessment may include reading comprehension, math, science, career awareness, and reasoning type questions or questions related to situations related to interpersonal interactions.
All applicants must complete the CASPer exam. Please continue to check the CASPer website for future test dates. CASPer test results are valid for the entire school year in which the test is completed (October through August). You only need to take CASPer once during this time.
