Although there are total 3 ways you can join custom class. But going to UPSC is the most popular. We will discuss three ways. But first let’s discuss the UPSC procedure
So, first of all, you have to attend the preliminary exam conducted by UPSC. Total 2 exams will be held soon. One of these will be of a qualifying nature and the other will decide your suspension.
Once you clear the prelims exam, you have to appear for the mains exam (after verifying your documents). The main exam will have 9 papers. Two of them will be of qualifying nature and the remaining 7 will decide your graduation. The beauty of civil services exam is that you will have an option to choose two jobs out of these 7 jobs. So select them very carefully.
So what happens after the main exam. Then comes the most difficult and important step of becoming a customs officer. You have to sit for personal interview round. To get good score in personal round interview you must have deep knowledge of economics, international relations, history, constitution etc.

It is a three step process. First, you need to provide qualifiers that are qualified in nature. The exam will be of 200 marks. It will test your general intelligence and mathematical ability. Once you qualify you must take the main exam
The main exam will be of 400 marks. Make sure you prepare well because you need to get a very good rank to become a customs officer. After completing these two rounds you will have to sit for personal interview. It will be much easier compared to civil service exam interview.

The third and final way to become a customs officer is to take the state public service exam. This test is conducted once a year by each country. So always visit the official website of Public Service Commission of your state.
If you go this way, you will only be exposed to a certain situation. In this case, you can be a customs officer at any airport in that country. Apart from this, no qualification is required to become a customs officer at the airport.
